Irena Santor is one of the greatest legends of Polish song, but in her private life she was hit hard by fate. In interviews, she spoke many times about her father, murdered during the war, and her mother’s death. However, few knew that the singer had a daughter who died a few days after birth.

Although she achieved spectacular success professionally and is considered a cheerful person in the media, privately she experienced many tragedies. One of them had been her biggest secret for decades.

Her first husband was the concertmaster and first violinist of the Polish Radio and Television Orchestra, Stanisław Santor. They met in the “Mazowsze” Song and Dance Ensemble, where she started her career. In 1958, the couple got married, and although they were considered a harmonious and happy couple, their relationship ultimately did not stand the test of time. They divorced after 19 years of living together. – It was a hard experience – Santor later. For the next decades, they both kept the real reason for their breakup a secret. Only after the death of Stanisław Santor in 1999 did the painful truth come to light. The couple’s child was also buried in the grave where he was buried.

In 1959, the Santors’ daughter, Sylwia, was born, but they were not allowed to enjoy parenthood for long because she died only two days after birth.
