“Do you know Ev’ry Night?” Nothing more needs to be said. Everyone probably knows the rest of the famous performance of Mandaryna at the festival in Sopot in 2005. The artist could not have expected that this night would ruin her chance not only to win the Amber Nightingale, but also to further her career. Years later, we learned more details about this stage “disaster”.

The topic came back to the forefront thanks to a certain Kris Świętoń, claiming to be the former manager of Mandaryna. On the Pomponik website, he announced that Doda’s former agent, Maciej Durczak, was responsible for her stage blasphemy. It was he, who was then managing Dorota Rabczewska’s career, who was to bribe the festival’s sound team to ruin her competitor’s vocals. Quite bold words for someone who was only thirteen at the time of the event. Therefore, he probably associates the memorable Sopot only with third-party accounts.

Let’s recall the details of this iconic performance. When Mandaryna appeared on the stage of the Forest Opera, her significant vocal shortcomings quickly became apparent. She was clearly lying, which confused not only the audience, but also herself.

I wouldn’t like to accuse anyone of this, because I didn’t grab anyone’s hand, but it was planting a pig (…). I couldn’t hear anything, my backing vocals were turned off, and the musicians had their instruments out of tune.

Quick reaction. “Legal action will be inevitable”

As reported by Pudelek, the person accused by Świętoń himself decided to quickly respond to these allegations. He assured that he had nothing to do with Mandaryna’s mishap in Sopot, and the artist herself “never made such an accusation against him, because it is simply untrue.” Additionally, “he maintains good relations with Marta Wiśniewska, as with the rest of her family.” He also does not know who Świętoń is and points out that his attitude may end up in court.

I am afraid that legal action will be inevitable if this type of slander is spread (…). This man doesn’t even realize what he said. It’s terrifying.

So it looks like it’s just an attempt to get ahead on what was an unlucky night for Mandarin. A real phenomenon. Give a performance that will be talked about for decades. But the artist herself didn’t necessarily mean that. Let’s put these speculations aside and let’s immerse ourselves in these iconic sounds again:
