The Green Goblin, Electro and Octopus, the unforgettable villains of Spider-Man, return

Nostalgia kicks in with Peter Parker’s old rivals. This week the actors Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx return.

“Hello, Peter.” Never a greeting had caused the hysteria that that phrase unleashed when it was said by the actor Alfred Molina in the first trailer for the Marvel film Spider-Man: No Way Home, to premiere on December 16.

That greeting was the confirmation to the world that Molina would reappear on the big screen with the tentacles that immortalized him as one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies in the 2004 film, then starring Tobey Maguire.

But in addition to seeing those long mechanical arms again, fans also heard the unforgettable and ghoulish laugh of the Green Goblin (interpreted by Willem Dafoe in 2002) and the rays of a furious Electro (Jamie Foxx) which has left the color blue for a yellow hue, very different from the 2012 film.

And although still there are many mysteries and secrets surrounding the tape which will show again to Tom Holland Sporting the tight-fitting superhero costume, fans can be sure this trio of villains will be an essential part of the plot. In addition, images of Lizard (Dr. Connors) and of Sandman (Flint Marko).

In a recent interview for the panel of Comic Con Experience Worlds 2021, the three great antagonists highlighted the great leap made by the technology and resources that now exist for the production of this tape.

Dafoe mentioned, for example, that in 2001 he had to spend eight hours in the dressing room while the team put the suit part by part until it was properly adjusted to the body. Now, he said, they only scan his body and are able to design a suit to suit him. and then test it on the actor. He further revealed that improvements have been made to the original costume.

For Octopus, this time its feared and aggressive tentacles will be built entirely in digital, whereas years ago they were mechanical and had to be handled by a team of puppeteers in the style of puppets.

Although they all had their epic battles with Spider-Man, Who is the scariest villain? For Jamie Foxx, it’s the Green Goblin. “For him it is a personal matter. In Electro’s case, his revenge is against the world, the entire humanity that harmed him, but if you have a character with a personal issue to resolve in a movie, it will always be the one with the most weight.”.

The three actors have a long and recognized trajectory far from the world of superheroes. For example, Foxx won an Oscar in 2005 for his portrayal of musician and pianist Ray Charles. But they appreciate the care Marvel has put into creating each of their characters.

“The thing about villains in the Marvel Universe is that a lot of them turn into the bad guys almost in spite of themselves.. An accident or a terrible tragedy happens that transforms them and that makes them easy to interpret because it is not just a costume”Molina commented. “There is a real depth that makes them interesting. In a less worked environment, the villains would only be in the movie to make the plot advance, but we have real narratives that we go back to and the whole audience knows that we are real characters”.

Days ago, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, also confirmed that the actor Charlie Cox (Daredevil) will be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although he did not specify when or in which movie he would return. However, a theory of fans point out that the character would be within Spider-Man: No Way Home. It will be known soon.
