Netflix showed the trailer of “1670”. It’s thick: What starts with “¿” and silently rules Poland?

Netflix showed the trailer of the latest Polish comedy series “1670” with Bartłomiej Topą in the main role. The announcement is really strong and full of jokes. The creators use almost every possible stereotype and play with it beautifully. Because in the 17th century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the answer to the question “What starts with ‘¿’ and silently rules Poland?” there could really only be one. Rye.

This year, December 13 is a doubly significant date. On this day, the Polish comedy series “1670” will debut on the platform and it is a premiere you really don’t want to miss. Already after the first fragments, it is clearly visible that we have never seen such a production about Polish noblemen before. Because probably no one has ever been able to joke openly like this before: “God, honor, homeland – the three most common causes of death of Polish noblemen.”

The trailer for Netflix’s “1670” is powerful. “Poland for Poles. And Lithuanians”

“I was lucky to be born a nobleman in Poland, the most powerful country in the world. We have reached the highest stage of development as humanity, nothing else will happen,” says the main character of the series at the very beginning. “How come this is not the height of embarrassment and krinjj? History, costumes, nobility, dirt, Poland, serfs and feathers in caps” – you may wonder even before turning on the trailer of the series “1670”. Meanwhile, the creators of the series, including Maciej Buchwald, well-known from the improvisational group Klancyk (one of the directors) and Jakub Rurzałło (the originator and screenwriter of “1670”, known in some circles as a rapper with the charming nickname Muflon), made it so that, on the one hand, it’s embarrassing and numb, but on the other hand it’s really funny. Look for yourself:

– Nobility has always been present in the texts of our culture, but no one has ever talked about it in the language of modern comedy. Meanwhile, the Sarmatian, stuck in unwavering self-satisfaction and not seeming to notice that everything around him is falling apart, is a tragic figure, but also… a very funny one, says RuŻYło.

– “1670” is an original comedy format drawing on various conventions. The heroes, placed against the background of everyday life in 17th-century Poland, face quite universal and timeless problems. It is not a historical story, but a kind of fantasy about the fate of the noble Adamczewski family, which is primarily intended to entertain and at the same time make you believe in the characters, their emotions and desires – assures Maciej Buchwald, who directed “1670” together with Kordian Kądziela .

“1670” Netflix. Cast and plot

The description of the series’ plot does not fully convey the charm of what will happen on the screen. “The year is 1670. Jan, the head of a noble family and the owner of (the smaller) half of the village of Adamczeja, dreams of being written down in the history of Poland – the most powerful country in the world. His string of successes in life allows us to think that he is on the right track” – introduces the situation Netflix. “In the end, Jan had to inherit everything he has himself, and he achieved the rest through the hard work of his own peasants. However, his ambitious plans are disturbed by the difficult everyday life of a landowner: the idea of raising taxes has to be vetoed at the local council again, and the peasants, unconvinced by the trickle-down theory, lose motivation to work , the daughter is against marrying off the tycoon’s son, and the sneaky neighbor Andrzej is plotting how to harvest a larger harvest this year…” – we learn more. And dark clouds appear on the horizon: “In addition, the Polish nobility is now maliciously falling. Fortunately, providence is always on Poland’s side, and Jan’s progressive thinking will allow him to get out of any situation and achieve eternal glory!” – we read and after watching the trailer we know that everything can be said about Jan’s thinking except that it is progressive. So it’s kind of a joke.

Bartłomiej Topa will play the role of the nobleman, theoretically devoted to family and tradition, Jan. Katarzyna Herman plays Zofia, Jan’s wife. However, she puts more faith in the will of the Creator than in her husband’s driving power. We will see Martyna Byczkowska as Aniela, the youngest child of Zofia and Jan, who is particularly bothered by the narrowness of the 17th century conventions. Her older brothers, Stanisław and Jakub, were played by Michał Balicki (he was excellent as Stomil in “Emigracja XD”) and Michał Sikorski, made up like Rowan Atkinson in “Blackadder”. Dobromir Dymecki joins the Adamczewski family as a brother-in-law named Bogdan. He is a pure-blooded nobleman (but without land of his own), Zofia’s brother, who took part in all the most important defeats of the Polish army. Andrzej Kłak will play the role of the family’s neighbor, Andrzej, with whom Jan shares influence in the village. Kirył Pietruczuk, in turn, will play the role of the peasant Maciej, “who came to Poland from Lithuania as part of the Erasmus peasant exchange program and quickly becomes part of the world created by Sarmatian fantasy,” the creators describe.
