In the 90s, a whole generation of movie stars appeared who are still at the top of the industry today, such as Johnny Depp, Keanu Reeves, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. The name of Rivero Phoenix, the older brother of actor Joaquin Phoenix, would also have been added to this list if not for his tragic untimely death.

River had all the prerequisites for success: piercing green eyes, unruly blond hair, talent as a singer and songwriter and a natural gift for acting. However, his life came to a heartbreaking end on October 31, 1993, when he ingested a lethal mixture of cocaine, marijuana and drugs, Vanity Fair writes.

That evening, River was preparing to go on stage at the Viper Room club that Johnny Depp opened in Los Angeles. It is assumed that it was at that place where he drank the drink that he fell unconscious and writhed in front of the entrance to the bar, as later reported by his girlfriend Samantha Mathis, who was with him and two brothers. River Phoenix’s Hollywood career began at the age of 15, when he played a supporting role in the movie “The Explorers” in 1985. In 1989, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the movie “Nowhere.” However, his role as Mike Waters in the film “My Private Idaho”, in which he starred opposite Keanu Reeves, catapulted him to a new level of popularity.

It’s no secret that River was also in the running for the lead role in some of the most famous feature films of the 90s such as “Interview with the Vampire” and “Total Eclipse”, but his death prevented that from happening and the roles were awarded to Christian Slater i.e. Leonardo DiCaprio.
