The National Media Council issued a statement regarding changes in TVP. “Totally absurd”

The fear of the United Right and all those who sympathize with it losing control over the public media is growing. The National Media Council, established by the PiS government, issued a statement in which it supports the “defense of public media.” However, not all council members signed it. “This is a threat and is completely absurd,” says Marek Rutka, a member of RMN associated with the Left.

After the announcement of the results of the parliamentary elections, in the so-called uncertainty was palpable in the national media and a decrease in attacks against the opposition. It turns out that it was only temporary, because now the propagandists have launched a strong counteroffensive.

The National Media Council is against any changes. They issued a statement

Last week, right-wing media employees published an open letter on the wPolityce.pl website entitled “The voice of the journalistic community in the face of the announced purges”. It was signed by, among others: the head of TAI Michał Adamczyk, the president of Polish Radio Agnieszka Kamińska and the head of TVP Info Samuel Pereira.

Moreover, the above-mentioned television station started broadcasting spots in which viewers were encouraged to call a special hotline and write. to an e-mail address where they can share their support for TVP. The campaign was launched “in defense of media pluralism”, which, in their opinion, may be broken when the opposition comes to power.

Now the National Media Council has decided to add its two cents and, with the votes of politicians associated with Law and Justice, adopted a statement in which it warns Poles against announcements regarding changes in TVP and Polish Radio.

Statements of the National Media Council in connection with the announcements of opposition politicians that they will take illegal actions against public media. – Changes can only be made through acts adopted jointly by the Sejm and the Senate and signed by the President of the Republic of Poland, i.e. in the procedure set out in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. […] The very announcement of the liquidation of public media is an act to the detriment of Polish culture and reason of state – wrote members of the National Media Council associated with PiS. This is their response to the opposition’s announcements regarding changes in TVP and Polish Radio.

In the statement published by Wirtualne Media, we also read that the National Media Council warns opposition politicians who want to change public media. “We warn opposition leaders against introducing lawlessness in Poland. We will defend public media and their employees against the law-breaking activities announced by the opposition. Those guilty of breaking the law will sooner or later suffer severe consequences of their actions,” they believe.

Opposition member of the RMN directly about the statement: It’s terribly stupid

It was put to a vote on Friday. Two opposition RMN members were against. One of them is Marek Rutka, associated with the Left. – I absolutely disagree with the content of this position. Especially with the last sentence. This is threatening and completely absurd. It is normal that if someone violates, they are prosecuted, he said. In an interview with Wirtualne Media, he added that in his opinion this statement should not be included in the resolution.

The chairman asked if I would sign it if he deleted the last sentence. I replied that neither did the rest. They didn’t modify it. This is incredibly stupid, says Marek Ruta from the Left.

Although we will still have to wait a while before the new government is elected, politicians from the three previously opposition parties who want to form a coalition say they have a clear plan on how to depoliticize the public media. According to the Wirtualne Media portal, one of the ideas is that the future Minister of Culture and National Heritage may convene a General Meeting, put public media into liquidation and appoint receiverships, bypassing the RMN. The Council’s lawyer has already assessed the idea as “unlawful”.
