How to find the grave of a loved one? Nationwide search engines will come to your aid
If you have trouble locating the grave of a deceased relative or friend, online search engines will help you. Importantly, on the Internet you will find both huge, nationwide ones and slightly smaller, urban and local ones, i.e. those that concern only a specific area. Although they are not foolproof, their databases are regularly and systematically updated and expanded. The most popular, nationwide ones include:
- , which has data from almost 1,400 necropolises from all over Poland. After entering the website, enter the name and surname of the person you are looking for, and then provide the voivodeship and city.
- is another nationwide database of buried people. When looking for a specific grave, you can use the search engine or map. After selecting the area you are interested in, specific necropolises will appear on the right.
- also has data from cemeteries from all over Poland. The database contains over 15 million entries. The grave finder requires information such as name, surname and date of death. You can also select a specific cemetery right away, or search in all of them.
- requires entering your name, surname and city or part thereof. The system has over 1.6 million entries from over 1,200 cemeteries. Importantly, we can supplement it with additional data ourselves.
- is a database of both necropolises and buried people. Just enter the name of the cemetery or town or the name and surname of the deceased.
Can’t find the grave of a loved one? Use local search engines
Nationwide grave search engines are not the only ones you can use. If you haven’t found the grave you’re interested in, use smaller databases, i.e. local ones. They are definitely more accurate, but keep in mind that not every cemetery has one. Below are a few selected ones. Just click on the name and it will take you to the desired page.
If you know in which specific cemetery the person whose gravestone you are looking for was buried, you can check the website of that necropolis, as some of the smaller, local ones also have their own search engines.
