Sonia Szyc makes her debut alongside Borys Szyc in “Maa³o cić nie być”. All thanks to this recording

Sonia Szyc is the daughter of Borys Szyc, who plays her “personal” father’s daughter in the film “Maa³o ci nie być”. The 18-year-old received the Rising Star Award for the best acting debut at OFF Camera for her role. She got into production thanks to a video she recorded with her dad a few years ago.

Sonia Szyc played 17-year-old Mańka in “It Was Supposed to Be Not There”, Kuba Michalczuk’s second full-length film after “In-Laws”. The girl unexpectedly enters the world of her father (Borys Szyc), with whom she has not had contact for a long time. He discovers that the girl is pregnant, but, against his daughter’s will, decides to help her. As we read in the description of the film, a forty-year-old man comes up with the idea to seek support and advice from his former partners.

The director of “It Was Supposed to Be Gone” saw them singing “Shallow” together

This project is Sonia Szyc’s acting debut. How did it happen? – The director of the film, Kuba Michalczuk, contacted me because he was looking for Sonia’s contact details. He saw us in a Facebook recording in which we sang “Shallow” from the movie “A Star Is Born” together and wanted to invite Sonia to test photos – Borys Szyc in an interview with weekend.gazeta.pl. At the same time, he also offered cooperation to Borys Szyc and it turned out that these two ended up on the set together.

The video in question is still available online. Father and daughter sang a song performed by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga at school at the end of the 2019 school year. Today, Sonia Szyc has already graduated from high school.

Sonia Szyc is not going to study acting for now

– He’s not going to theater school – Borys Szyc tells Angelika Swoboda. – Of course, she can be an actress without school and just act in films, although I think you should have school. For now, Sonia is going to a music academy to study vocals, but I do not rule out that after the premiere of the film, she will be offered more roles. She doesn’t rule it out either, and if she likes something, she’ll probably use it, she adds.

He also says that his daughter has a different character than him – she is “calm, focused, modest and organized” – and he is glad that she is returning from Katowice to Warsaw after graduating from high school. Perhaps we will see them in one film again someday? “You Were Gone” is currently hitting theaters.
