Aftersun“Charlotte Wells, British indie film phenomenon of the year, the French”Anatomy of a fall“, by Justine Triet, Palme d’Or in Cannes, or the Italian “The eight mountains” by Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix Van Groeningen will compete for the Goya for best European film in 2024.

The Spanish Film Academy announced this Friday the complete list of candidates presented by the academies and selection committees of their respective countries to compete in the 38th edition of the Goya, which will be held on February 10 in Valladolid.

In this selection, half of the titles are directed or co-directed by women. Greek-made is “Behind The Haystacks”, directed by Asimina Proedrou, while the Swiss bet is “Foudre” (Thunder), by Carmen Jaquier.

Also competing for the award are the Portuguese film by Marco Martins “Great Yarmouth: Provisional Figures”, the Croatian “Safe Place”, directed by Juraj Lerotic, the German “Teachers’ Room”, by Ilker Çatak, “Sughra’s Sons”, from Azerbaijan, by Ilgar Najaf and from Luxembourg “The Last Ashes”, directed by Loïc Tanson.
