On September 22, “The Green Border” about the humanitarian crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border was released in Polish cinemas. The film had already sparked controversy much earlier, with the domestic right wing criticizing the film with often unacceptable words. Politicians led by Andrzej Duda compared the production to Nazi propaganda, although they had not seen the film, and there were voices on the Internet that Holland’s work was anti-Polish and attacked the Border Guard. The creator denies it and emphasizes in interviews that she made the painting out of love for our country.
Robert Bąkiewicz filed an application to the court to suspend the film screenings of “The Green Border”
A month after the premiere of “The Green Border”, the noise around the film subsided somewhat, but Robert Bąkiewicz decided to return to the topic. A representative of the nationalist Radical National Camp announced on the X website (formerly Twitter) that he had submitted a request to the court to stop showing the film Holland in cinemas.
“As previously announced, I have submitted to the District Court in Warsaw a request to suspend the broadcast of a lampoon by Agnieszka Holland – ‘Zielona Granica;’ – writes Bąkiewicz. The organizer of the Independence March also presented his requirements. He claims that they coincide with the opinions of “hundreds of thousands of Polish patriots.”
What if the court rejects the application? Bąkiewicz already has an idea
Bąkiewicz wants the screening of “The Green Border” to be suspended for a period of three months. He argues his demand as a “violation of personal rights”. If the court rejects the application, the politician demands that the film’s distributor, i.e. Kino Świat, take special actions and calls for a board with special information to be displayed before the film. “Kino Świat sp. z o. o. and Agnieszka Holland declare that the events presented in this film may violate the personal rights of the organizer of the Independence March – Robert Bąkiewicz – in the form of dignity and good name,” the statement is said to have read.
“I will keep you updated on the further developments of these proceedings. Greetings to Great Poland!” – ends the entry the candidate of Law and Justice for the Sejm in the last election. Bąkiewicz started from the last place on the list in Radom, but he did not get enough votes to be elected as an MP.
