Media experts analyzed TVP’s “Wiadomości” before the elections. For a month they examined the program for manipulation and propaganda. The results speak for themselves.

The Journalists’ Society analyzed the main edition of “Wiadomości” for a month just before the elections. The team responsible for monitoring the medium initially wanted to focus on the ironic propaganda message of the program, but the concept changed. “After the tests in August this year, we realized that the program had completely lost its information function and we had to analyze it in detail. The effect exceeded our expectations,” says Dr. Andrzej Krajewski, originator and coordinator of the project, with Press.pl.

The Journalists’ Society analyzed TVP’s “Wiadomości” for a month. Here are the conclusions

The analyzes were carried out by two media experts – prof. Stanisław Jędrzejewski and Dr. Krzysztof Grzegorzewski, who recently talked for kuli.gazeta.pl about what he believes will happen to TVP and journalists working in public media after the change in the balance of power in the government. “This report can act as a crown witness revealing the pathologies prevailing at TVP,” says Krajewski.

The team developed a list of manipulations and propaganda techniques that were regularly used on TVP. After a month of work, a summary report was created. The results are not particularly surprising. Media experts point out that before the elections, the main issue of “Wiadomości” was dominated by the topic of the opposition leader, Donald Tusk. In addition, the issue of the threat related to immigration “imposed by the European Union” and the increase in the retirement age by the governments of the candidate opposition were often discussed.

Donald Tusk’s name appeared on TVP as many as 574 times before the elections

“The voters were supposed to be encouraged by the fact that the Polish army is growing stronger, people are living more prosperously, and Germany and Russia will pay for historical wrongs,” Press.pl quotes the report. Before the voting date, “Wiadomości” extensively commented on the election spots of PiS candidates, in particular Prime Minister Morawiecki. “The events of the PiS campaign were shown and overestimated, while the opposition campaign was omitted and ridiculed,” we read in the analysis.

The statistics regarding representatives of the ruling and opposition parties are also interesting. For a month, in 33 editions of “Wiadomości” before the elections, Jarosław Kaczyński’s statements were broadcast as many as 121 times. Donald Tusk’s name was mentioned as many as 574 times, which is an average of 17 times for each edition of the 30-minute “Wiadomości”. The record was broken on October 10, when the name of the opposition leader was mentioned as many as 35 times. The context of the quotes is also important here, which was, of course, completely different in the case of both politicians.
