The election results mean changes not only in the balance of government forces, but also possible changes in the public media. Since the announcement of the results, there have been loud discussions about the Polish Radio. Media experts predict changes in management boards and dismissals of famous faces who have been associated with party propaganda by viewers for several years. Former viewers and listeners of public media are counting on a return to the reality before PiS rule.
Will WOŚP return to TVP? Jurek Owsiak answers firmly
Since Jacek Kurski from Telewizja Polska became the president of TVP, the Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity disappeared. The international initiative has been associated with public media from the beginning. The collection has been covered and supported by TVP for years; in recent years, mentions of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity on the station have appeared in a negative context. It even happened that the WOŚP heart – the symbol of the campaign – was erased in “Wiadomości”.
It’s no wonder that Jurek Owsiak treats the station with distance. The founder of WOŚP admitted that after the elections, Poles kept asking him the same question. “A huge number of questions are asked about whether it is possible to link TVP with the Final again, or even whether it is possible to return the Final to TVP. We are trying to answer individually, and now I will answer collectively,” Owsiak writes on his social media.
“For these lies and journalistic meanness”
In a statement, the head of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity announced his position in a diplomatic, but very firm manner. “Not until TVP apologizes to all of us – Poles – for this incredible attack on us, for these lies and journalistic meanness,” Owsiak declares. “That’s it for this matter,” he adds.
TVP explained the procedure of removing the WOŚP heart from the “Wiadomości” material as an editing error. However, similar situations occurred more often in the program. One of TVP’s materials concerned reading during the pandemic. On the screen, viewers saw a bookstore with… a gray rainbow. As Maciej Łopiński, acting president of the management board of Telewizja Polska, reported at the time, the black and white rainbow was supposed to be an independent activity and the editor’s own initiative.
