They dreamed of a family, but Niemirska could not get pregnant, even though she underwent various treatments for years. “It was supposed to be that way, apparently,” she said bitterly. In the 1990s, she received another devastating news. Walczewski was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. – I must say that during those five years I was visiting him, I said goodbye to him almost every day. It was terrible to watch the person you love lose your mind, how you fight it, how you don’t want it, she recalled with regret. She stood by him persistently until his death in May 2009.
