How to care for a monstera? Remember a few basic rules

First of all, choose a bright position, but without strong sunlight. Monstera will also do well in the shade, but if you want characteristic cuts on the leaves, it needs light. Another very important issue is watering. Water the plant regularly but moderately. In summer, do it once a week, and less often in winter. The substrate should be constantly slightly wet. In addition, do not forget to sprinkle it, because it likes moist air above all else.

Did you buy a monstera and didn’t replant it? This is a mistake!

In addition to the appropriate position, monstera also needs watering and wetting its leaves decent ground. When buying it in a store, we often forget about replanting it later. This is a mistake that usually leads to health problems for the plant. All because store soil rarely meets her needs. If you want it to grow really healthily and luxuriantly, prepare it… bigos, which is the best type of substrate for plants that do not like excess water. What will you need? Prepare:

  • a large pot,
  • bowl,
  • good quality land,
  • a piece of styrofoam,
  • pebbles or expanded clay, perlite, coconut chips (thick pieces of coconut shell), and a bit of: tree bark, cones, needles and coniferous twigs, sawdust and sand.

A proven mixture for monstera. It will start growing immediately

Preparing bigos, i.e. soil that is perfect for the case, is easy, and you can collect some of the necessary products on the way home. First, place a layer of pebbles or expanded clay at the bottom of the pot to act as drainage. Pour soil into the bowl (it should constitute half of the entire mixture), add a bit of crushed Styrofoam and sawdust and mix thoroughly. Crush the cones, twigs and bark, add them to the mixture along with the remaining ingredients and mix everything again, making sure that everything does not clump too much. The substrate should be permeable. Place the plant in a pot with stones at the bottom and cover it with soil, gently kneading it. The soil prepared in this way will ensure that the monstera grows healthily and beautifully. It will also work for philodendrons.
