Piotr Jacoñ attacks the leaders of the Third Way. “That’s not why I stood for an hour at the committee”

Piotr Jacoñ is a TVN24 journalist who is very active in the issue of equal rights for LGBT+ people. He is also the father of a transgender daughter, so he knows very well what non-heteronormative people have to struggle with in Poland. He also does not hide the fact that he is very hurt by the latest statements of the Third Way leaders.

The political parties Polska 2050 and PSL joined forces, running in the parliamentary elections as part of the Trzecia Droga election committee. As a coalition, they told their voters that they were in favor of conducting an abortion referendum and legalizing civil partnerships.

Piotr Jacoń notices politicians’ statements. He has his own opinion on this matter

However, the last statement by Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, regarding one of these two issues (“Ideological issues can never be the subject of a coalition agreement”), angered Piotr Jacoń. The journalist wrote a post in which he personally tagged both Third Way leaders.

When I hear politicians (mostly men, as it happens) who say something about ‘worldview issues’ and thus try to cut short the conversation about human rights, I remember another gentleman. […] ‘It’s not people, it’s ideology’ has now been replaced by ‘worldview’. And again, a man magically disappeared – wrote Jacoń.

A TVN24 employee also believes that the use of such language in public space by important politicians may give the impression that people’s rights are some abstract idea that can be constantly discussed. Jacoń says directly that he does not agree to this.

“The life of my daughters, the life of my friend who is raising a son with her husband, the life of my friend who has been in an informal relationship with her fiancée for years (because she cannot have another in her country) is not anyone’s worldview. It is their life. These are people. This is their dignity. And their rights,” Jacoń writes in his entry.

The journalist also used irony towards politicians. He said that since they are so willing to hide behind their worldview, they should argue with him on issues such as taxes or the education system. “I don’t need your consent for my life. Neither do my daughters, my colleague or my friend. And actually, I didn’t stand for an hour at my committee to write such a post three days after the elections. Well, seriously not,” concluded Piotr Jacoń .
