‘Being Superman or being Geralt is a privilege and a responsibility, above all a responsibility, because they are very loved …’, he said in Madrid (Spain).
Few actors like Henry Cavill have “The privilege, but above all the responsibility”, of playing two such iconic and “beloved” characters as Superman and Geralt de Rivia, the witch he embodies in the series The Witcher, whose second season came to present to Spain this Friday, with the third installment already confirmed.
Sitting behind a virtual bonfire at the Four Seasons hotel in Madrid, a much more sumptuous space than his character enjoys in this Netflix production, the British actor unraveled some of the keys to what it means to be the fashionable hero.
“Being Superman or being Geralt is a privilege and a responsibility, above all a responsibility, because they are very loved and I must make sure that most see the character when I am characterized as them”, he said at the press conference, the first with an international actor in Madrid in several months.

Premiere on Friday, December 17 on Netflix
A lover of video games and fantasy stories, Cavill (Saint Helier, 1983) recounted how he pursued the role created by the Polish novelist Andrzej Sapkowski before it was even a treasured project by Netflix and how, at first, it was rejected.
“My gateway to that world was video games, but when I read the books, I was even more surprised by the richness of nuances. I realized that it was a role that I had to play because, the more you get to know Geralt, the more you see that he is an incredibly special person ”, noted about this hero who will return with new adventures to Netflix as of December 17.
Of those dark and muddy wastelands that run between the cities of Cintra and the castle of Kaer Morhen, where the witches recover from their wounds, Cavill highlighted how the subtext about what in that world – or in this – is considered a monster.
“Some are simply born that way, as a tiger is born a tiger. For me the most interesting ones are actually those that look like monsters but they are just the opposite, although humans point them out for being different, as happens to Geralt, despite the fact that people are often more terrible than the monsters themselves ”, Indian.
The limits are more mental than physical
Your character, taciturn but with arms to take, evolves in season two to open up to the world. “We will see a different part, because although he has always been a protector of heart, his bad experiences made him withdrawn; in this season, the character of Ciri is the key that will help him unlock that part ”, he anticipated.
Precisely because his determination to put himself under Geralt’s skin was “to represent him in the most faithful way” with respect to the novels, he revealed that it was his initiative make it quieter than it is in the original text and thus “present the deepest part, that of a wise man, to make it more three-dimensional”.

Not everyone appreciated those more subtle nuances, he acknowledged. “It seems important to me to be aware of what the followers of the saga think, both the positive and the negative, although destructive criticisms must be separated from those that are constructive and, of the latter, I have read really good suggestions”, he claimed.
Between struggles, the great physical dimension of the character took its toll on him and at one point during the filming of the second season he suffered the “worst injury” of his career. Thus, a tendon forced him to use crutches for a “long time” and a “slow recovery” of almost half a year until he was fully recovered, which he did without completely abandoning his work.
“When they allowed me to get back on my feet, I would spend between 1 and 2 hours with the physiotherapist and then I would roll. By medical prescription it should not be more than 5 hours a day, but unfortunately that is incompatible with filming a series, “he revealed, before thanking actress Freya Allan, who plays Ciri, for adapting to her limitations and Schedule.
From that, Cavill drew a lesson that he wants to convey to all those who see him as a role model: the importance of staying “positive” and how to take care of mental health goes hand in hand with purely physical health.
“It has been incredibly beneficial to fight to get back on track. You realize that the limits are more mental than physical; if we can see that, we will be closer to our goals, “added Cavill, with the third season of the series already confirmed. (I)
