Barbara Kurdej-Szatan feared for her life. She referred to the murderer Adamowicz

On Tuesday, the latest episode of Magda Mo³ek’s program, hosted by Barbara Kurdej-Szatan, saw the light of day. The actress referred to her loud reaction in November 2021 to the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. She confessed that due to the great wave of hate that hit her, at one point she feared for her life and her loved ones.

At the beginning of November 2021, Barbara Kurdej-Szatan published a several-minute-long video on Instagram showing armed people in uniforms (most likely officers of the Polish Border Guard) struggling with women holding children in their arms. Children could be heard screaming and crying in the background.

In the description, the actress stated that these were officers of the Polish Border Guard, and she did not spare words of criticism towards them. She also used profanity. The ruling party’s camp used her reaction to launch a massive attack on her. Moreover, the prosecutor’s office initiated an investigation into this case, which was legally discontinued in February 2023 by the District Court in Warsaw.

She was suddenly fired from TVP. The huge wave of hate took its toll on her health

On Jacek Kurski’s recommendation, the star lost her job overnight at TVP, where she hosted or co-hosted the programs: “I love you, Poland!” (2016–2018), “The Voice of Poland” (2016–2018), “The Voice Kids” (2018–2019) and “Dance Dance Dance” (2019).

In the program “In my style” by Magda Mołek, in which she was an interlocutor, she returned to her emotional reaction from almost two years ago. Barbara Kurdej-Szatan admitted that she had a lot of understanding for herself from the beginning of the case’s publicity.

I was shocked, I was intimidated. I withdrew a bit. Not even a little, but a lot. Only deep down I knew that my reaction – maybe apart from my words, although many people told me that they would describe what they saw even worse – was right. I simply do not agree with cruelty. I knew it inside! – said the actress.

The guest of the program also revealed that the hatred she encountered had a negative impact on her mental health. – Only a few months ago I started to come back to myself, more joyful, trusting and spontaneous. But for the previous year and a half, I felt like I wasn’t myself. I don’t know, but I think I was going through some kind of undiagnosed depression. I know I need to go to therapy now. I didn’t go then, admitted Kurdej-Szatan.

Barbara Kurdej-Szatan feared for her life and that of her family

The actress also added that she was afraid for herself. However, her main concerns were focused on the star’s loved ones. Her fear resulted from the murder of the president of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz, which took place during the finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity in 2019.

After murdering him (the president), this madman shouted slogans against PO. I read that he watched TVP non-stop in prison – and before that, too. Knowing that there was a campaign against President Adamowicz – probably not to such a great extent, but it was there – I was afraid that I would come across someone like him. (…) I was afraid that someone would do something to my parents and my sister, she emphasized.
