The first mentions of the changes that awaited appeared already in 2022, when Warner Bros. Discovery took over the service from the WarnerMedia group. During this year’s MIPCOM television trade fair in Cannes, the speculations were officially confirmed. Head of International Warner Bros. Discovery, Gerhard Zeiler, and head of streaming for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Leah Hooper Rosa, made the final decisions made in this matter publicly available.
According to reports, the platform will disappear from the streaming market in as many as 22 European countries. This will happen in March 2024. However, this will not be the end, because its place will be taken by a new website with the shortened name Max. At the moment, countries such as Great Britain, Italy and Germany have been excluded from the changes. The reason is the agreements that HBO Max concluded long ago with the European media giant Sky.
Warner Bros reveals what users can expect. Max’s offer looks promising
Subscribers who are concerned about these changes can rest easy. Warner Bros ensures that every decision is made with users in mind. The Max library is to be much more diverse than before, as it will combine offers previously available on both HBO Max and Discovery+. Thus, in addition to popular movies, users will also have access to live sports broadcasts, including: the Tour de France cycling race or the Olympic Games to be held in Paris in 2024. The catalog will also include original productions from Max, Warner Bros. and the DC Comics universe. Moreover, the offer will also include access to local channels owned by WBD.
