The promise assumes that the second, September indexation would take place when inflation in the first six months exceeds 5%. Importantly, the increase will not be the same as the inflation rate, but only a surplus over the 5 percent ceiling. What does this mean in practice? Two pension increases in one year? It all depends on one thing
According to the first estimates, the March indexation predicts an increase of 12.3%. As for inflation, in the period from January to June 2024 it will amount to approximately 7%. According to the assumptions of the Civic Coalition, this means that if the forecasts hold, seniors can count on a second valorization. How much will the increase be for seniors who receive a pension of PLN 2,000 gross? From March 1, his pension would increase by approximately PLN 223.86 net (12.3%), and from September 1 by another PLN 40.88 net, i.e. an additional 2%. With the benefit of PLN 3,000 gross, the first increase would amount to approximately PLN 291.79, and the second one to PLN 53.35.
However, it is worth bearing in mind that the second indexation may not be valid for a longer period. Why? The current NBP forecasts assume that inflation will gradually decline over time. As the project specifies, when it is less than 5%, the September indexation will not take place.
