After the hit opening, Magdalena Ogórek’s guest decided to cool down the host’s delight, saying that after the official election results were revealed, emotions would only subside. Later, Andrzej Dera clarified that the election impressions would be forgotten and emotions related to building a new government would begin to appear. Then the guest of the program referred to 2005, when PO and PiS were supposed to form a coalition. “Many things have already happened in our history, so we will see what will happen now,” he concluded.
Clou of the program: “Law and Justice won the elections in terms of results”
Later in his statement, he mentioned that program differences may prove difficult in forming a coalition, to which Ogórek replied that the so-called personals. “These are not easy conversations,” the host concluded, and then invited viewers to watch the latest statement by President Andrzej Duda, who gave an interview on Polsat News.
It is clear from his position that he will stick to the unwritten rule according to which he will entrust the mission of forming a new government to the winning political party, i.e. PiS. Then Magdalena Ogórek suggested to her guest to analyze this “election puzzle”. Then these words also came from her mouth:
Indeed, it has always been customary for those who achieved the highest results to be entrusted by the president with the mission of forming a government. And no matter what – with all due respect to the result of the United Opposition, which was not really that united before the elections, and now it is a little more united, but they have the right to be happy with their success. Nevertheless, Law and Justice wins the elections in terms of results, said the host.
Dera replied that this unwritten rule is applied in democratic countries and he sees no reason to abandon it. He also defended this tradition, saying that “the winner has the most to offer other parties.” Later, he pointed out that if a coalition is formed in which the winning party does not participate, such a government will be formed sooner or later anyway.
At this point, Magdalena Ogórek decided to ask her guest about what might happen if there is no coalition agreement at the parliamentary level. Andrzej Dera then again referred to history in which there was already such a case. He explained to viewers that the president then appoints a candidate for prime minister, whose government must obtain a vote of confidence by a simple majority of votes in parliament. Then the guest of the program clearly made it clear that in his opinion it is much easier to be in the opposition than in the government:
Easy and convenient. It is much more difficult to govern and from this point of view, I believe that the result of Law and Justice is a very good result, because for the first time since I remember and have been involved in politics, the party that ruled for two terms did not lose its voters – said Andrzej Dera.
The program was supposed to focus on Andrzej Duda, but the next topic was reflections on the future coalition
The host then admitted that she wondered whether the future coalition would remember that almost ten million Poles voted for Law and Justice, and nine million voted for the referendum. – This is a strong indication – admitted Ogórek. To which Andrzej Dera replied that only PiS has managed to achieve such good results in recent years and that they can maintain it. He also added that this proves that the party is credible in the eyes of voters.
Then they both said that the problems Poland is struggling with remain the same and the same society will evaluate the new government team, if in their opinion one is created. Then Magdalena Ogórek began to list various members of the opposition groups who, in her opinion, may soon begin to disagree with the Civic Platform, which has dominated the opposition so far:
On the one hand, Kołodziejczak would like the Ministry of Agriculture, Szymon Hołownia, as has already been announced in public communications by the Ministry of Defense. And I can already see, for example, Tusk, who says: ‘Take it,’ said Ogórek, amused.
Andrzej Dera laughed at the host’s text, but decided to admonish her, saying that at the beginning of the program he said that such conversations are always very difficult, but they are crucial. He referred to the words of one of the Left MPs, who said that program issues were key. He later pointed out that in some cases the programs of parties wanting to form a coalition are “quite contradictory.” Then Magdalena Ogórek immediately indicated the topic of abortion as one of the potential controversial issues.
The guest of the program also revealed other issues that divide the opposition parties, and then referred to the words of the host, who talked about the problems of ambition of some politicians. As an example, he gave a statement by Władysław Bartoszewski from PSL, who said: “this government will not be formed without us.” Then Ogórek immediately recalled the words of the MP who said in “Wprost” that even 20 percent PO voters do not trust this party. According to the interlocutors, this may lead to problems in agreeing who will be appointed as prime minister.
When the guest wanted to return to the main topic, Magdalena Ogórek preferred to talk about Donald Tusk
At one point, Andrzej Dera made it clear to the host that he would like to change the topic and talk about President Andrzej Duda, but Magdalena Ogórek did not give up. She started asking him when a new government had a real chance of being formed. The Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland believes that this will be achieved this year. Moreover, he assured that Andrzej Duda would not delay the announcement of the Sejm session.
Then the host decided to stab Donald Tusk once again, quoting his statement from the election rally in Sopot, during which he promised that the money from the KPO would be released the day after the elections. Dera called it election rhetoric and admitted that the art of government consists in implementing most of the things announced during the election campaign later. He concluded this by referring to his own party:
So far, Law and Justice has been successful in this matter, because citizens feel that it is a credible party, as evidenced by the results and the elections it won. And now there will be a test, if the opposition takes power, whether it will be able to implement these election promises. Time will tell, said Dera.
Then Ogórek returned to Tusk’s statement and Katarzyna Lubnauer, who defended him on Radio ZET, and described the former prime minister’s words as a metaphor. – The day after his election as the Prime Minister – argued the MP. The host of “Plan of the Day” commented on this statement with the following words:
It is clear that election promises are binding only on those who believe in them. Is that what it was like? – she said sarcastically.
Even though Andrzej Dera laughed, he decided to admonish the host, saying that voters will later judge those who will or will not implement the announced changes. – I would be very careful with such an ironic approach to these promises that they only apply to those who believe in them. – he replied. – Others may find out that this is not a good path – he concluded. Later he expressed satisfaction with the fact that for the first time there would be no representative of the German minority in the Sejm. He admitted that this is due to the large voter turnout, and the German minority itself is not so large in our country that it should deserve its representative.
At the very end of the program, Magdalena Ogórek asked her guest about Andrzej Duda’s stay in the Vatican on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the election of Karol Wojtyła as Pope. – The Pope is an incredible symbol and value in itself and paying tribute to the greatest of the Polish family is something natural and normal. It is hard to imagine that representatives of the Polish authorities would not be present at such celebrations. (…) And that’s how it should be, in short – said Dera. Later he added that this high turnout is one of the merits of Andrzej Duda, who, in his opinion, has always encouraged citizens to engage in social activities.
