After watching the Monday edition of the flagship TV daily on TVP, you could feel very uncomfortable. Although the materials tried to maintain the atmosphere of victory of the United Right camp, there were also doubts and the first suspicions that the opposition could take power in Poland. The atmosphere of success was to be enhanced by standard materials maintained in their current rhetoric.
The first three materials are a combination of sweet and bitter. Various plans and translations
After the above-mentioned solemn atmosphere, due to Law and Justice winning the largest number of votes (among all lists), in which Jarosław Kaczyński’s encouraging statements were heard, the results of the remaining parties were presented based on the latest and “incomplete” NEC data. Later, Marta Kielczyk got down to specifics.
1. “Law and Justice wins the elections”
At the beginning, the presenter indicated that, according to the latest polls, the opposition had a chance to govern, but it was decided to break down the remaining coalition possibilities. First, reports about PiS’s third victory in a row were repeated, accompanied by Jarosław Kaczyński’s pompous speech from yesterday’s conference. Later, the record turnout was announced and the following words were spoken:
Winning the elections, however, is not enough for Law and Justice to be able to govern independently as it has so far. Hence the opposition’s intensification.
However, in the background we saw replays from yesterday’s conference of the Civic Coalition, which – as the creator of the material emphasized – is still the second one. Disappointment in the Confederation was also reported, and then the topic turned to plans to create a coalition government by KO, Trzecia Droga and Left in opposition to PiS. Then an expert from the Polish Academy of Sciences explained to the viewers of “Wiadomości” that there is no such party as the opposition, because they are three separate groups and that is why the opposition “did not win”.
Then it was recalled that it is customary for the president to entrust the winning party with the mission of forming a new government, and Kaczyński was quoted as saying that in the event of failure, his party “will implement its projects in various ways and will not allow Poland to be betrayed.” Finally, it was mentioned that TVP left the competition behind in terms of viewership on election night.
2. “Post-election scenarios”
It was decided to recall here that the president convenes the first session of the Sejm within 30 days of the elections. It was mentioned again that the votes are still being counted, but PiS does not have a majority allowing it to govern independently, which means that in the worst case scenario, a coalition partner will be needed.
In addition, a statement by prof. was quoted. Andrzej Zybertowicz that there is a “hunger for power” among opposition politicians, and then suddenly statements by representatives of KO and Confederation about coalition plans were broadcast. At the very end it was indicated that the Third Way could be the third force in parliament. It was emphasized that Kosiniak-Kamysz currently sees no chance for a coalition with PiS, but according to national media employees, “the time for serious talks will only be after the election results are announced.”
We are able to talk to anyone who shares our vision of Poland, who believes that a stable government is needed for the good of our country – Prime Minister Morawiecki was quoted as saying.
At the end of the material it was said that in the event of a vote of confidence in the government appointed by the winning party, the election is made by the Sejm by an absolute majority of votes.
3. Wrongful practice of some electoral commissions
However, this material talks about a referendum in which important questions were asked, but which is invalid due to insufficient turnout. The authors of the material attribute the reason for the poor result to incorrect practices, which are illustrated by recordings found on the Internet and statements made by random passers-by in front of the polling stations.
The words of the chairman of the National Electoral Commission were also recalled, who emphasized that the commission cannot ask which cards to issue. Further statements were made by PiS politicians, according to which such actions could have had a negative impact on the turnout in the referendum. It was also noted that these practices were more common in large cities.
This was the end of the opposition’s campaign to discourage the referendum – it was concluded.
Elections (with record turnout) are elections, but there are also other topics
In the next material entitled “Record attendance” We returned to the topic of parliamentary elections again. “Poles broke the record,” Kielczyk announced. It was mentioned that in the largest cities there were queues until late at night. Mention was also made of the record attendance in the Miedziana Góra commune in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. Next, President Andrzej Duda thanked him for his mobilization, and at the end it was mentioned that there were queues to the polling stations also outside Poland.
The next material topics were “The Middle East on Fire”, “The French are afraid of terrorists” Whether “Russian aggression unites the Baltic states”. They said, among others: about the fact that the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem wants to enslave himself to Hamas to save children, or about the announcement of the expulsion of Islamic extremists from multicultural France. And in the latest material, they paraphrased Biden’s words, which meant that “if Russia invades Poland, we will be at war.”
In the material “45 years ago Karol Wojtyła became Pope” it was said that the teachings of John Paul II are still valid, and in the material “Brussels is pushing the migration pact” reference was again made to the disastrous turnout in the referendum, the results of which would indicate that the majority of citizens do not want to bring illegal immigrants to Poland.
Unfortunately, if Law and Justice does not form a government, we can expect a very serious threat, said MEP Jadwiga Wiśniewska.
Here it was decided (finally) to attack Donald Tusk, who was accused of being in the same party in the European Parliament with Manfred Weber, the German-born chairman of the European People’s Party, and from whom he had already received “premature” congratulations.
In the next material entitled “From detention to the European Parliament?” the Warsaw garbage scandal and its aftermath, i.e. Włodzimierz Karpiński’s stay in custody, were recalled. Apparently there is a chance that he could get a seat in the European Parliament, which was attempted to be made easier using a complicated infographic.
However, at the very end, optimistic materials were served “It blew cold” and “A shameful draw at the National Stadium”. Despite these disturbing titles, their tone was extremely pleasant. We learned that it would be getting colder and the animals would hibernate. Moldova, on the other hand, was called a “worthy opponent”. “And the Polish fan, like him… will believe until the end” – these words summed up the last material.
