Family, friends and colleagues of the late soprano Astrid Achi said goodbye to her with tears and lyrical music. The funeral of the famous Guayaquil singer, who lost his battle against lung cancer, took place this Saturday afternoon, October 14, at the Parque de la Paz cemetery in La Aurora (Avenida Febres-Cordero).

Today at 16:00 a mass was held with the body and the open coffin in one of the viewing rooms of the cemetery, which could not accommodate all the people who wanted to express their “see you later” to Achi, who ceased to exist at the age of 62 on Friday, October 13. Artists such as Hilda Murillo, Gustavo Pacheco, cultural managers Ezio Garay and Gustavo Rivadeneira, entertainment chronicler Santiago Sanmiguel, among others, were among those who attended the funeral.

Colleagues and mentors of Astrid Achi took turns at the microphone and sang well-known Catholic hymns during the memorial mass in honor of the deceased performer with more than 40 years of artistic career. Soprano Beatriz Parra and tenor Hugo Huerta offered their song for the repose of their friend Beatriz Achi.

In addition, the municipal ensemble of Guayaquil, under the direction of maestro Luis Izurieta, dedicated a song to him GuayaquileƱo warrior tree. A group of more than 30 musicians also accompanied the funeral procession that carried Achi’s coffin to its final resting place at the Parque de la Paz cemetery. The funeral was held starting at 17:00.

The artist died due to cardiorespiratory arrest, after being admitted to Solca’s intensive care unit in Guayaquil, where she underwent a complicated operation.
