What is the heating season? The definition of the heating season was included in the regulation of the Minister of Economy of January 15, 2007 on detailed conditions for the operation of heating systems. We read in it that this is “a period in which weather conditions require continuous heat supply to heat the facilities.” However, it is not mentioned when and under what circumstances this season will start.
Heating season. What temperature should be in a given room?
Additional information on the meaning of the term “heating season” can be found in the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of April 12, 2002 on the technical conditions to be met by buildings and their location. There is a record there that the temperature in rooms intended for permanent human stay (living rooms, halls, kitchens) must be at least 20 degrees Celsius.
For rooms that have been identified as being unclothed (e.g. bathroom), the minimum temperature should be at least 24 degrees Celsius – results from the content of the document.
When does the 2023 heating season start? Most often it depends on the weather
Formally, there is no specific date for the start of the heating season. It usually starts if the outside temperature stays below 10 degrees Celsius for three days in a row. However, this is not a hard and fast rule, but only a hint for housing cooperatives when to turn it on.
In some cities, the heating season started already at the beginning of the second week of October, although the outside temperature was higher than 10 degrees. The season has already started, among others: in Kraków, where the forecast deterioration of weather conditions was taken into account. Some cooperatives from Lublin, Kielce, Łódź, Warsaw and Poznań also informed about the start of the heating season.
Due to the upcoming heating season, it is worth remembering to clean the radiators – to avoid unpleasant odors caused by the accumulation of dust. It may also be necessary to bleed air – if we notice that the radiator heats up unevenly.
When does the heating season end?
Similarly to the starting date of the heating season, there is no clear answer to the question of when it ends. Typically, the heating season lasts until the end of March or the beginning of April, but in this case everything depends on the outside temperature and prevailing weather conditions. No legal guidelines indicate a specific date by which they must be warm. The manager or owner of the building is responsible for this.
