From Azúcar Moreno to Rigoberta Bandini: these are the candidates to represent Spain in Eurovision 2022

Five months to go Eurovision and Spain already has the candidates to represent the country in Turin next May. Radio Televisión Española has revealed this Friday the names of the 14 shortlisted artists who will perform at the Benidorm Fest at the end of January, where the Spanish representative at the festival will be chosen.

With a poster that includes established artists such as the Brown sugar -which already represented Spain in the European competition in 1990- to referents of the indie What Rigoberta Bandini, Javiera Mena or Varry Brava, the shortlisted proposals are very diverse and also include emerging talents and a song in Galician.

These are the artists who are part of the Spain’s preselection for Eurovision 2022 and the titles of his songs, which have been selected from among 886 proposals and will be made public on December 23:

  • Blanca Paloma: ‘Secret of the water’
  • Chanel: ‘Slo mo’
  • Gonzalo Hermida: ‘Who would say it’
  • Javiera Mena: ‘Guilt’
  • Luna Ki: ‘I want to die’
  • Marta Sango: ‘You’re still on my mind’
  • Rayden: ‘Calle de la llorería’
  • Rigoberta Bandini: ‘Ay Mama’
  • Sara Deop: ‘Make you say’
  • Tanxugueiras: Earth”
  • Unique: ‘Best’
  • Varry Brava: ‘Raffaella’
  • Xeinn: ‘Eco’

How will the Spanish representative be chosen?

Next January, the shortlisted artists will participate in two semi-finals at the Benidorm Fest in groups of seven. Will vote a professional jury, made up of 60% national experts and 40% international, but also the publicHalf of your vote will be made up by televoting and the other 50% by a demoscopic jury. The four most voted artists will go to the grand final, which will feature eight performances.

The winning performance of that grand finale will represent Spain in the next edition of the European song festival, which will be held in Turin on May 10, 12 and 14 of 2022, after the victory this year of the group Moonlight, which represented Italy.
