Throughout the history of the United Kingdom, the title of Princess Royal has been one of the most transcendental and exclusive in meaning, to the extent that only seven women have been awarded it, and it is currently held by Princess Anne, the eldest daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and sister of King Charles III.

Unlike other positions within the monarchy, this is decided on a discretionary basis, and recent rumors suggest that Charlotte, the eight-year-old daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton, will be next in line.

As Tatler magazine reported, each of the royal princesses played a key role in the history of Great Britain and Europe. Some of the holders of the title were exiles, queens and empresses.
