The director of the series “The Winner” is Jan Hrebejk (“Under One Roof”), winner of awards at the Berlinale, the Dwa Brzegi and Karlovy Vary festivals, as well as the Czech Lions. The final, sixth episode of the production, which can be seen on SkyShowtime from October 9, stars Robert Więckiewicz and Magdalena Popławska. This family comedy tells the story of Viktor Hudák (Ada Hajdu), a former prime minister of a small European country who ended his political career and tries to return to family life after a decade. Trying to reintegrate into the daily family routine, he tries to get closer to his wife and daughters. However, this new stage in his life turns out to be full of surprises and challenges, often more difficult than those he faced in the government for years.
Więckiewicz highly praises the production’s script – he plays the unleavened prime minister who meets with a long-time friend. While the men are talking about politics, strong words are spoken in the kitchen about a right-wing politician from Poland: “His voters would never accept it if the best Catholic in Poland had a pervert for a daughter.” Watch a short video in which he talks about working on the series:
The Winner was based on a screenplay by Zuzana Dzurindova. Martin Šácha is responsible for the photos. In the main roles, next to the popular Slovak actor Ady Hajdu, there are Czech Lion winner Ivana Chýlková, Czech Lion nominee Natalia Germani, as well as young rising stars Petra Dubayová and Rebeka Rigová. The cast also included Noël Czuczor, Milan Ondrík, Zuzana Páleníková, Ján Jackuliak, Kristína Sisková, Rea Frlajsová, Vladislav Plevčík, Sarah Arató and Štefan Martinovič.
