Scammers are constantly coming up with new ways to scam people. This time they targeted Polish drivers. They leave notes behind car windshield wipers that look very similar to fines issued by the City Guard for incorrect parking. If you find something like this in your home, it is better to throw it away immediately.

A new method of fraud. A mysterious note behind the glass

CERT Polska published an important announcement on its Facebook profile. This is an appeal to drivers to be careful when they find a notice of violation on their car windows. There will be a QR code on it that you need to scan to get more details. The fake document also contains information that if you pay the fine within 24 hours, you will receive a 50% discount. The alleged fine is PLN 100.

The code leads to a page phishing for online banking login details. You can lose money like this!

False mandate. QR code and discount for payment within 24 hours

This pattern is very similar to other activities of cybercriminals. Once you provide all your details and log in to your bank, you will be handing over confidential information to fraudsters. This way they will have access to your money.

In July, a similar situation occurred in Krakow. Then fake QR codes appeared on parking meters. – Drivers were redirected to a website containing the logo of the city of Krakow by scanning the QR code placed on the parking meter using, for example, a mobile phone. There, they provided their payment card details, which were read by criminals and used for illegal payments – you can read on the official website of the Central Bureau for Combating Crime.
