An addiction he had to fight

In an interview for the magazine “Syn og Segn” he talked about family, faith and the previously mentioned addiction.

“I was just an alcoholic, I drank around the clock and I broke down… It was a kind of alcoholism, but for a long time I thought I had it under control. For many years, drinking was a supplement to writing. But it had to end because I almost got drunk myself. The drink replaced food,” he told Jan H. Landro during a meeting in Vienna.

However, the writer noticed that alcohol was a serious problem for him that he should fight.

“I say no to absolutely everything… I completely gave up drinking alcohol. Alcohol was taking up more and more space. I haven’t tried anything like that for two and a half years,” he added.

Jon Fosse married for the third time. He is currently in a relationship with Anna, whom he met when she was writing her master’s thesis on his work. The writer is also the father of five children.
