Despite the appeals of the government, which was crusading against the “Green Border”, Dominik Tracz went to the cinema to see the criticized film.
In an interview with “Gazeta Wyborcza” he revealed his thoughts after the screening. How many of the things he saw on the screen do you think are real? In his opinion, does the production slander the Polish uniform, as those in power stubbornly claim?
The former head of the Border Guard watched “The Green Border”
In an interview with “Gazeta Wyborcza”, General Dominik Tracz emphasized that he wanted to find out for himself how much Agnieszka Holland “insults the Polish uniform.” What conclusions did he come to?
The scenes presented in “The Green Border” are drastic and difficult to accept. But unfortunately it is very likely, considering how carefully information about actual events is protected. The film was not made to insult the uniform or discredit what we do. It shows what happens because of bad decisions made by superiors and misunderstanding of the situation. Signs with the inscription “zone under a state of emergency” mean that no one is able to verify what the real situation is, he says.
Let us recall that quickly after the outbreak of the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border, the government established an area of state of emergency in this area. Only local residents could stay there, and even these sometimes had problems with moving freely. Access to the border areas was blocked for journalists whose job is to keep an eye on the authorities – only a few volunteers from aid organizations reached the forests where the migrants were staying and documented what was happening there. The authorities have consistently denied that there was an illegal “push-back” procedure – Katarzyna Zdanowicz, spokeswoman for the Podlasie Border Guard, called it “returning to the border”.
Today, in the Polish-Belarusian sector, everyone performs tasks that are contrary to their vocation. From whom are they supposed to protect and defend us? In front of defenseless women and children? Maybe men who, as we can see on the screen, are sometimes powerless. It seems to me that soldiers and officers who wear uniforms, but also everyone who thinks responsibly about security, should go to see this film – said the former commander of the Border Guard.

Shame on you, Commander. It is rude to attack your successors during an election campaign. We remember who reorganized the Border Guard, eliminated allowances, introduced the categorization of posts, and reduced positions, which resulted in the departure of many officers from our formation – it was written on social media.
