For almost a hundred years, the House of Artists in Skolimów has been inhabited by people who have made a significant contribution to Polish culture and art. One of the residents revealed the amount she pays for her stay every month. She admitted that it was disproportionate to the pension she received and that she had to rely on the support of her relatives. There were also bitter words addressed to the Polish government.

in Skolimów, most often called the Actor’s House, was established in 1927 and from the beginning it has been owned and managed by the Association of Polish Stage Artists. The initiator of the construction of the guesthouse was actor Antoni Bednarczyk, who, concerned about the fate of lonely and retired artists, decided to create a place where they could live to a peaceful old age.

A resident of the Actor’s House complains about high fees. She revealed the amount of the monthly stay

Many famous personalities from the world of film, theater, music and art lived in the guesthouse for almost a hundred years. They found a refuge there, among others. Irena Kwiatkowska, Andrzej Szopa and Barbara Krafftówna. Each resident has a single room at their disposal, while couples or married couples can opt for a shared, slightly larger apartment, e.g. with a kitchenette. Some time ago, the monthly cost of stay increased to PLN 7,705. ZASP, which manages the center, pays each resident an additional PLN 150, while they must cover the remaining amount on their own. In most cases, however, the pension you receive is not sufficient.

Elżbieta Janiszewska, a retired puppet actress, decided to talk about the dramatic situation of the inhabitants of the Actor’s House in an interview. – All prices have gone up. Here we pay 70% of our pension benefit. We get 30% in hand for some small expenses. The rest must be paid by the city or the family, she admitted, adding that if she didn’t have the help of her relatives, she wouldn’t be able to afford it. – I pay about PLN 2,000. PLN, and I had to pay almost PLN 8,000 for my stay, i.e. PLN 5,000. My son, my grandson, has to pay extra zlotys and groszy – she said.

The government does not support pensioners. The actress said without reproach what she thought about it

It has been known for a long time that they receive low salaries. However, Janiszewska emphasizes that both she and the vast majority of residents of the Actor’s House have been paying due contributions to the state treasury throughout their lives, which is why she believes that the government should pay the missing amount. – We have been paying contributions and working hard for so many years that the state should give us a discount and we should be paid for it – she said bitterly.

In her opinion, regardless of who is in power, retirees are the most exploited social group, and the government does not respond to their problems and needs. For many years of work, she tried to take care of herself in old age, and yet she still relies on the help of others. – Every government changes and one government ordered that I pay contributions so that I can have a higher pension, the other one came and took it all away from us. Not only did I lose a third of my pension and instead of PLN 3,000 I only have 2 left, the state is taking advantage of us from every side. Pensioners always get hit on the head. This is a tragedy. Then Mr. Czarnek will come and “spend” someone a few million on villas, she said bluntly.
