Colombian music star Carlos Vives has just received an Honoris Causa doctorate in social sciences from the Universidad del Norte de Barranquilla. This is the highest institutional award for those who promote the identity and culture of the Colombian Caribbean.
The higher education institution took into account in its argument the global projection of traditional Colombian and Caribbean music, which Vives has achieved thanks to his three decades of work, just completed in 2023.
The rector of the Universidad del Norte, Adolfo Meisel, places the contribution of the Samarian singer alongside artists such as Lucho Bermúdez, Gabriel García Márquez or Alejandro Obregón, in the prologue of the book Carlos Vives: Universal Caribbeanpublished as part of the academic tribute to the interpreter.
