It’s hard to resist the impression that he is currently having a very good time in his career, after his undeniable success, his name does not disappear from the headlines. Now it turns out that he has another reason to triumph. On September 26, 2023, the crime story “The Saint” joined the Netflix library, in which he played one of the main roles, and although the reviews leave much to be desired, it already ranks 7th in the top 10 most watched productions in Poland.

“The Saint” is a story inspired by true events, telling the story of one of the most daring thefts that occurred at the end of the Polish People’s Republic. It’s 1986. A silver figure of Saint Adalbert was stolen from the Gniezno Cathedral. The Citizens’ Militia quickly becomes involved in the case, initiating an investigation led by Lieutenant Andrzej Baran. Both the clergy and the authorities strive to find both the thief and the missing symbol of the cult. Even though they have the same goal, cooperation quickly brings its first difficulties. At this time, relations between the state and the Church are extremely tense, because only two years have passed since the tragic death of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko. Does theft have anything to do with it? Or maybe someone has an interest in ensuring that the mystery remains a secret forever?
“The Saint” number 7 in the top 10 productions in Poland. Critics do not share their admiration
Telewizja Polska is responsible for the Polish-Hungarian distribution. The script was written by Sebastian Buttny, who also directed it. The shooting of the photos was entrusted to Łukasz Gutt. The cast of “The Saint” included a galaxy of the biggest stars. Mateusz Kościukiewicz played the role of the lieutenant, and Lena Góra played his wife. The character of curalist and art historian, Father Stefan, was created on screen by Leszek Lichota. Other roles were played by, among others: Dobromir Dymecki, Michał Włodarczyk, Andrzej Musiał, Jacek Król, Michał Darewski and Tomasz Tyndyk.
The official premiere of “The Saint” took place on March 24, 2023, debuting on cinema screens across the country. The production was also presented during the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia in the Main Competition, but without any major delights. Critics spared no comments, pointing out, among others, to an overly confusing script or music that doesn’t match the mood.

His opinion is also shared by film expert Jakub Majmurek, who in his review published on the website stated that “the closer to the finale of this story, the worse it gets, unfortunately, because the film is longer and loses rhythm and pace.”
