Nike Literary Award 2023. Competition jurors in T-shirts supporting Holland

During the gala, the jury awarding the Nike Literary Award wore T-shirts expressing support for Agnieszka Holland. This year, three novels, three reportages and one volume of poetry were nominated.

This year, the chairman of the jury is Inga Iwasiów, and the other members are: Marek Beylin, Przemysław Czapliński, Justyna Jaworska, Tadeusz Nyczek, Masza Potocka, Krzysztof Siwczyk, Maria Topczewska and Maria Zmarz-Koczanowicz. As you can see during the broadcast conducted, among others, on TVN24 Bis, decided to show support to the director of “The Green Border” during a ceremony organized at the University Library in Warsaw. – I support it – said Grażyna Torbicka, host of the awards ceremony, from the stage.

Agnieszka Holland hated, but also supported

Both “The Green Border” and Agnieszka Holland herself were criticized and even hated even before the film’s premiere. However, many people support the director herself and emphasize how important freedom of speech is. One of the expressions of this support is wearing – and now during the Nike awards – T-shirts with the inscription “Agnieszka Polland”. The author of the pattern is Matylda Damięcka.

“I once made up a cruel joke, too close to the truth to be just funny. I was asked abroad: – hi where are you from? -Poland -Holland? -ymm… yea Holland. now I will answer Polland :)” Damięcka wrote in a post in where she published her drawing for the first time.

Nike Literary Award – the winner receives PLN 100,000. zloty

This year’s Nike Audience Award went to Grzegorz Piątek for the book “Gdynia promised. City, modernism, modernization 1920-1939”. This information is revealed even before the ceremony by the editorial office of “Gazeta Wyborcza”.

This year, the seven books nominated for the award are: “Crossing the threshold, I will whistle” by Wiktoria Bieżuńska, “Cena. In search of Jewish children after the war” by Anna Bikont, “Trash story” by Mateusz Górniak, “Gdynia promised. City, modernism, modernization 1920 -1939” by Grzegorz Piątek, “He who laughs who has teeth” by Zyta Rudzka, “Years of practice” by Piotr Sommer and “Migot. From the end of Greenland” by Ilona Wiśniewska.

The winner of the Nike Literary Award receives PLN 100,000. PLN and a statuette designed by Gustaw Zemła. The award is sponsored by the Agora Foundation.
