The star of “Dynasty” had a nervous breakdown after two divorces. She tried to strangle her own mother

The role of Samantha Josephine in “Dynasty” brought her the status of a beauty icon and crowds of fans around the world. Heather Locklear’s private life is no less complicated than the fate of her heroine. After two divorces, she had a nervous breakdown and became addicted to alcohol and drugs, but the most famous case was when she tried to strangle her mother.

Heather Locklear started her career by acting first in commercials and later in popular series. Her breakthrough was her role in a soap opera, in which she played the sensual and one of the greatest intriguers, Samantha Josephine. After the production ended, she performed, among others, in “The Firestarter”, “TJ Hooker” and “Melrose Place”, for which she was nominated for the Golden Globes four times.

In the 80s and 90s she was a style icon. Her two marriages ended in divorce due to infidelity

Despite her initial successes, fate did not spare her. The crisis in her career was initiated by the Golden Raspberry Award, i.e. an anti-film award, for her role in “The Return of the Swamp Monster”. At the same time, her private life also stopped going well. After two failed relationships, with Tom Cruise and Mark Harmon, she thought she had finally found true love. It was supposed to be Tommy Lee, whom she married in 1986. however, it lasted only 6 years and ended in a loud divorce with betrayal in the background. She got married again in 1994 with Richie Sambora. Although they had a daughter together, Ava Elizabeth, the man cheated on her, with her friend. After 13 years of relationship, they separated.

Failed marriages and a failing career led her to lose herself in alcohol and drugs. She even went to rehab dozens of times, but as soon as she left the hospital, she relapsed. She couldn’t cope with life and had attacks of aggression. In February 2018, she became famous again when she was accused of domestic violence. Police interventions at her place of residence were common at that time. Once, while under the influence of drugs, she even threatened to kill one of the officers. Ultimately, despite resisting, she was arrested.

First she tried to strangle her mother, then she wanted to kill herself. What was Heather Locklear’s life like?

Over the following months, the colorful press wrote about her constantly deteriorating situation and mental health. In the summer of 2018, she had her first serious nervous breakdown. As a result of a fit of anger mixed with panic, she tried to strangle her mother. When she realized what she had done, she wanted to commit suicide by pointing a gun at herself. If it weren’t for her father’s immediate reaction, there is no telling what the ending of this story would have been. There were several similar, equally dangerous situations. Finally, the family decided to put an end to it once and for all. Locklear was sent, against her will, to a psychiatric hospital where she underwent therapy. Initially, she was supposed to spend only two weeks there, but at the family’s request, her stay was extended. Doctors also favored this option, arguing that her condition was unstable and that whenever the opportunity arose, she would want to take her own life again.

Everything indicates that the actress has regained balance and control over her own life. After leaving the hospital, she continued therapy and did not use alcohol or drugs. According to information, she has been sober for almost 2 years. She also dealt with bouts of aggression. Her biggest support is her parents, daughter and fiancé, because in 2020 she got engaged to her schoolmate, Chris Heisser. She also returned to acting and occasionally appears on the small screen, playing episodic roles in TV series.
