The jury awards for best photography and best script went to Nadim Carlsen by Kalak and Maria Alche and Benjamin Naishtat by Puan respectively.

Irizar Award for “Sultana’s Dream”

The Irizar award for the best Basque film at the festival went to the feminist animated fable The sultana’s dreambeautiful work by the San Sebastian director Isabel Herguera for, according to the jury, “being a clear example of patience, dedication and diligence at work.”

For its part, the microfilm Latxa (3 minutes), directed by Mikel Urretabizkaia, has won the Eusko Label award for the best short film that disseminates and supports local products through cinema.

The Zinemaldia closing gala has ended with the screening of the film Dance firstdirected by James Marsh, which portrays the life and thoughts of Samuel Beckett.

The 71st edition of the Festival has come to an end, but, as filmmaker Víctor Erice said this Friday at the Donostia award ceremony, cinema never ends. “I have always understood cinema as a means of knowledge,” said Erice, “hence its learning for me never ends.”
