American guitarist Al Di Meola suffered a heart attack during a concert in Romania. The artist was immediately transported to a local hospital.

Al Di Meola played a concert in Bucharest on Wednesday, September 27. The photographer Dragos Cristescu, who was present in the room, reported to the media the dangerous incident that took place on the stage. At one point, the musician grabbed his chest and then left the stage with difficulty. The remaining musicians played for a few more minutes, but the performance had to be canceled.

Al Di Meola suffered a heart attack during the concert

The guitarist was taken to a local hospital, which issued a statement regarding the star’s health condition. The Bagdasar-Arseni facility said Di Meola was admitted to the cardiology ward due to a heart attack.

A day after the incident, the artist addressed his fans on Facebook. He informed that he had to rest and postpone planned concerts. All of the guitarist’s upcoming performances have been canceled and moved to 2024. Di Meola thanked fans for their invaluable support and understanding. “I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible amount of love and support I have received over the last 24 hours,” the guitarist writes.

“Unfortunately, my health situation requires a break from concerts, but I assure you that I have the best possible medical care and I am on the right track to recovery,” the musician added. According to the Minnesota Department of Health, the type of heart attack the guitarist suffered is considered the most severe. Every year, 250,000 Americans have similar health problems.

Al Di Meola is an Italian-American guitarist known for his music in the jazz fusion and world music genres. He began his career as a musician in the Return to Forever group, but soon began his solo career. For 50 years of playing, he has collaborated with many popular musicians. He played with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Luciano Pavarotti, Phil Collins and Carlos Santana.
