The world record for having the largest number of descendants, i.e. children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even great-great-grandchildren, may be shocking. It turns out that there are also many record holders in Poland. Although this title has belonged to the same person since 2016, it was officially broken this week.

Since 2016, the Polish record for having the largest number of descendants recorded in belonged to Mrs. Maria Karpowicz from Nowe Dwory. Her closest relatives consider her to be the glue that holds the whole family together, so when she celebrated her 90th birthday a few years ago, a party was organized for her. All her descendants appeared there, i.e. 5 children, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren, which gives a total of 53 descendants.

Mrs. Maria’s record was broken only after 7 years, or more precisely on September 27, 2023. It was then that Mrs. Genowefa Abramczyk from Wólka-Folwark in the Rząśnik commune celebrated her birthday. On this occasion, the family invited an independent witness whose task was to officially count all the woman’s descendants. It turned out that she had 8 children and was also a proud grandmother of 24 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 42 great-grandchildren.

The world record for the number of descendants is shocking. How much is?

The documented world record, which was recorded on October 15, 1992, is also very impressive. Although over 30 years have passed since then, no one has yet managed to beat him. It belonged to Samuel S. Mast, a man from the United States who died at the age of 96. At the time of his death, he had 11, 97 grandchildren, 634 great-great-grandchildren and 82 great-great-great-grandchildren, which gave a total of 824 descendants.
