Joanna Jabłczyñska was supposed to be the star of “The Witcher”. However, the parents stood in the way

Joanna Jab³czyñska gained experience in front of the camera from an early age. In one of her last interviews, she confessed that, as a 15-year-old, she was very close to getting the role of young Yennefer in “The Witcher” by Marek Brodzki. She even took test shots, but ultimately her parents did not agree to take part in this production. It’s about a rape scene involving this character.

Joanna Jabłczyńska started her career on television at the age of eight. A few years later, she made her debut as a TV series actress, playing, among others, in “Klan”. Years later, she revealed that at that time she was supposed to play the role of young Yennefer in “The Witcher” by Marek Brodzki. The title was one of the most anticipated Polish productions at the beginning of the 21st century.

Joanna Jabłczyńska was supposed to play in “The Witcher”. One scene prevented this from happening

In the role of Yennefer we saw Grażyna Wolszczak, who appeared alongside Michał Żebrowski in the title role, and Zbigniew Zamachowski as Jaskier. It turned out that her parents did not agree to Jabłczyńska’s participation in this production. She talked more about this in an interview with:

I had all the tests, they taught me how to ride horses, they checked how I would look with brown lenses. Well, Grażyna Wolszczak, you know, has dark eyes. It’s just that I’ve already been there. God, Michał Żebrowski, well… Others would die for this. I’ll pay extra if they let me in. – Jabłczyńska confessed

However, the script included a rape scene that was to be committed against young Yennefer, played by Jabłczyńska. This meant that the 15-year-old would have to appear half-naked on screen. The actress’s parents reacted strongly to this information. “Then they said they didn’t even want to know which half and that we thanked them,” Jabłczyńska said. Ultimately, the rape scene of young Yennefer was not included in the production.

“The Witcher” from 2001 did not win the hearts of viewers

There were great hopes for Marek Brodzki’s “The Witcher”, but the film turned out to be a huge flop. “The criticism left no stone unturned, viewers left the cinema disappointed. ‘The Witcher’ was criticized in particular for the inconsistency of the plot and unsuccessful special effects, which are of fundamental importance for a work in this convention,” we read on the website.
