Another protest in front of the Kinoteka PKiN regarding the “Green Border”. This time there was also a counter-demonstration [WIDEO]

On Monday, in the largest art-house cinema in Warsaw, a special screening of “The Green Border” took place, followed by a meeting with Agnieszka Holland and the cast of the film. National groups again appeared at the PKiN Cinema, but this time they were met with a counteroffensive. Waiting for them were social activists playing drums, who effectively drowned out the slogans they shouted. Among them was, among others: Grandma Kasia, with whom we managed to talk.

Agnieszka Holland’s latest film is extremely polarizing society in the current pre-election period. United Right politicians, along with the so-called public media, they organized a massive campaign against the director and her latest work, calling it a “lambda”

National groups also joined in the attacks and organized protests in Poland’s largest cities in front of cinemas where pre-premiere screenings of the production were held. They shouted slogans repeated by PiS politicians, such as: “Only pigs sit in the cinema” or “A wall behind the Polish uniform.”

The nationalists came to shout again. They didn’t expect that they would have opponents

A similar situation took place on Monday, September 26, when in the evening a special screening of “The Green Border” took place at the Warsaw Palace of Culture and Science, followed by a meeting with the director and the cast of the film. However, this time, the screaming members of the All-Polish Youth were met by a group of social activists who came to the cinema to drown them out, thus showing support and solidarity with Agnieszka Holland.

After a short conversation with the participants of the counter-demonstration, I learned that they were people from different backgrounds, associated with different organizations. Among them was social activist Katarzyna Augustynek, whom most people know as “Grandma Kasia”. The woman, who is known for participating in many protests against the current government, has often been the victim of a campaign launched by Telewizja Polska.

In an interview for Kultura Gazeta.pl, she admitted that she decided to take part in the counter-demonstration to protest against the government’s actions in connection with the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. – I believe that no human being is illegal. Anyone who has reached the Polish border (…) has the right to submit migration papers and the border guard is obliged to accept these people. Move to places of temporary stay and process asylum applications. You cannot do what they have been doing for two years, Augustynek said.

[Protest – przyp. red.] is related to the content of the film, because there is a scandal on the Polish-Belarusian border – people are dying there. 49 identified people have already died, and we are looking for approximately 300 people. Therefore, this is ‘borderline crime’ and the Border Guard has blood on its hands.

As a gesture of solidarity with Agnieszka Holland, but also with the arrested Ewa M. “They are heroines of our times”

The social activist noted that she supported Agnieszka Holland for making this film, but also mentioned Ewa M., who was arrested on Friday and charged with leading a group involved in the transfer of migrants from Belarus to EU countries. On the same day, the Granica Group issued a statement stating that the woman was “involved in providing humanitarian aid to people on the way, trying to get to the EU from Belarus.” One of the first cases takes place on Wednesday, September 26.

I support Mrs. Agnieszka and Mrs. Ewa, who was completely unjustifiably arrested for helping at the border. (…) I believe that both of these women need to be supported because they are heroines of our times – concluded Augustynek.
