We can buy windshield washer fluid at any gas station or in a store with a motoring department. We can choose from several or even a dozen companies, and we can spend even several dozen zlotys on it. Particularly expensive are those that are intended to serve us also in winter, at very low temperatures. What if we could significantly reduce this amount? It turns out that you can make simple windshield washer fluid yourself. All you need are just a few ingredients that you probably already have at home – and if not, they cost very little. Additionally, we have control over what is inside. Ready-made medicines often contain methanol, which is harmful to us when inhaled.
You will never buy ready-made windshield washer fluid again
To prepare basic windshield washer fluid, all you need is water and a little dishwashing liquid. Distilled or at least filtered water will work best, as it will be free of scale and minerals that could settle inside the sprinklers. Pour 4 liters of water and a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid into the jug. Mix everything thoroughly and it’s ready. This mixture will perfectly replace expensive windshield washer fluids. However, here is an important note – for the liquid to work well in winter, when the temperature drops well below zero, it must be slightly enriched.
Winter windshield washer fluid for pennies
If we want windshield washer fluid that will be good also in winter, we should buy two additional products. It is spirit vinegar, which is certainly found in every home, and 70% isopropyl alcohol. We can buy it for just a few or a dozen zlotys online or in automotive or construction stores. To prepare winter windshield washer fluid, mix together 4 liters of water, a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid, 100 ml of spirit vinegar and 250 ml of isopropyl alcohol as before. Thanks to these additives, the fluid will not freeze inside the windshield washers, and your car’s windshield will be thoroughly washed and degreased.
