On September 22, 2023, it was added to the repertoire of cinemas throughout Poland, but a few weeks earlier some circles were calling for a boycott of the screenings. Right-wing politicians openly criticized the creators in the Polish Television’s materials, convincing the public that the film’s plot harms not only the good name of the Polish uniformed services, but also the entire country.

The media campaign for the new production has been going on for several weeks. When “The Green Border” was released in cinemas, TVP broadcast a broadcast of a concert in Mielnik, organized under the slogan “A wall behind the Polish uniform”, in order to show solidarity with Polish soldiers and border guards. The main issue returned to the topic of the film, fully devoting the first three reports to it. One of them was based on a street survey conducted by Jakub Krzyżak. – Residents of the Polish-Belarusian border are shocked after seeing some scenes from the film Holland. It’s science fiction. Something like this never happened – Edyta Lewandowska, announcing a material in which the journalist showed fragments of the film to random women and then asked for a short opinion. – I’m not interested in such a lampoon. I somehow have a bad opinion of this Mrs. Holland. If she came here and saw how hard they worked, the older woman said to the camera.
TVP illegally published fragments of “The Green Border”. The creators announce actions in this matter
This is not the first action of this type by , long before the premiere, numerous reports tried to prove the thesis that “The Green Border” has a negative connotation and the plot denigrates the country’s authorities and border guards internationally. After critical words from right-wing politicians, it was time for materials based on fragments of the film taken out of context. The station admitted that it came into possession of them illegally, which is a crime, but does not intend to disclose the data of the person who decided to share them. – This person decided to express his opposition to the slander of the border guard outside our country. Due to important social interest and protection of the good name of the border guard, these fragments were broadcast – explained Telewizja Polska in an interview with .
Due to this situation, a meeting was held on September 21, attended by the director, producer, i.e. Metro Films, and Kino Świat, the Polish distributor, during which, in consultation with lawyers, attempts were made to determine appropriate actions. Agnieszka Holland and Metro Films provided an official statement to Wirtualna Polska, announcing that they intend to hold TVP responsible.
We declare that as producers we will defend the good name of the creators and take the necessary steps to stop people and entities who distribute fragments obtained illegally, and we invite everyone to cinemas to watch ‘The Green Border’ in its entirety. Without manipulation of tendentiously selected and stolen fragments.
