Parents and children spending time together is necessary to build bonds and a sense of security. By imitating their parents, children learn correct behavior and how to be independent adults in the future. Family time is also an opportunity for little ones to let go of their worries, talk, learn, build character and discover what the world has to offer. Children love learning and experiencing new, exciting things and phenomena. Therefore, it is a great idea to offer the youngest a variety of attractions, preferably those that make broadening new horizons easy and pleasant, and where fun can be combined with learning. A good idea for this type of time spent together would be participation in the Young Researchers’ World initiative. The World of Young Researchers is an educational program that has so far been addressed to students of grades 2 and 3 of primary schools. The workshops were intended to arouse students’ interest in exact subjects and science. This year, its formula has been expanded to include free materials for parents with ideas for spending free time together. Now they can become guides around the world of science and perform interesting experiments with their children without leaving home. Examples of “home” experiments, along with step-by-step instructions, are available on the dedicated Henkel website ().
– Experimenting is a great way for a child to learn about the world around him. It is worth letting him conduct experiments at home – especially if it will be an opportunity to spend time with a parent he trusts. In this way, the child develops his or her creativity, and thanks to play, he or she is in a great mood, relieves tension and relaxes. These are the best conditions for learning new things that will be remembered for a longer time. The experiment also develops the ability to establish relationships and build bonds, so at the same time it has a positive impact on intellectual, emotional and social development. – explains Ewa Sêkowska-Molga, child and youth psychologist.
The World of Young Researchers is an original, international social and educational initiative of Henkel. It helps convince young people that the world of knowledge is really fascinating and that it is best to get to know it through experiences and observations. The project is carried out in several countries around the world, thanks to which over 91,000 children around the world, including over 8,000 from Poland, have already taken on the role of scientists. The World of Young Researchers in our country took the form of workshops in primary schools located near the location of the company’s branches.

This year, Henkel returns with the World of Young Researchers in a new version – the project has been expanded to include a space for parents. A series of materials has been created just for them, from which you can learn how to encourage a child to experiment and discover his or her creativity, whether to reward for a successful experience and how to explain that failure is part of the science. These are a dozen or so ready-made ideas for experiments that parents or guardians can do with their children without leaving home. How to make glue from starch? How to make a secret copy? What is the surface of the skin? Now you can simply check it all out and have great fun!
Do it yourself: secret book
How to make a secret copy? Researchers get to work!
You will need:
- a few grapes, cut in half,
- sheet of paper,
- stick,
- a lit candle or an iron,
- help from another person!
Now we’ll begin!
1. First, dip the end of the stick in grape juice from the cut fruit. Use it to write letters or draw something on a piece of paper. Wait patiently until the paper dries. The letters will then become invisible.

2. Once dry, carefully place the paper over the candle. You can also place it on the flat surface of a hot iron – this is a safer version. After a while, under the influence of heat, previously invisible letters will appear on the paper. The inscription “RESEARCH CAT” is not pretty, but you can read it. NOTE: this part of the experiment must be performed in the presence of an adult.

Do you know why this happens? Grape juice contains substances that darken when heated. You can write similarly, e.g. with milk or lemon juice.
