Doctors forbade Anna German from getting pregnant. She didn’t listen. She died when her son was 7 years old

In the 1970s, Anna German already had a spectacular career and love, but she was missing a child. After a car accident, from which she miraculously survived, doctors forbade her to get pregnant. She didn’t listen and 8 years later she welcomed a son into the world. However, she was not able to enjoy motherhood for long.

They called her the “White Angel of Polish song”. The voice was also admired abroad. Even though she achieved a spectacular career, her family was her priority. She was happy to return home after concerts, among others. in Italy, France, Australia, the United States and the USSR. On the way back from one of them, she had an accident that changed her life forever.

Miraculously, she survived the tragic accident. Doctors gave her no hope of returning to the stage

In 1966, she performed on the stage of the Paris Olympia. It was then that she was noticed by representatives of the Italian recording studio Company Discografica Italiana. She was then offered a three-year contract, which she eventually signed. In this way, she was the first and only Polish artist in history to sing at the 17th Festival in San Remo, and she was also the first foreigner to present her songs during the 15th Neapolitan Song Festival. She was also scheduled for a tour that other artists of the time could only dream of, but the plans were interrupted by a tragic accident.

In 1967, while returning from a concert in Forli, a car driven by the composer Renato Serio hit the barriers on the Motorway of the Sun near Bologna. The singer fell through the windshield, as a result of which she was hospitalized with 49 bone fractures. Doctors considered it a miracle that he was alive at all. After a week, she woke up from the coma, but her condition was still considered critical. She couldn’t move or even speak. It was not certain whether he would ever get back on his feet, let alone return to the stage. Her fiancé, Zbigniew Tucholski, supported her all the time. Rehabilitation took her 3 years, and although she did not regain full mobility, she was happy with small successes and the opportunity to return to music.

Motherhood was her biggest dream. Despite the doctors’ opposition, she decided to fulfill them

German never hid that a family was her greatest dream, but after the accident, doctors categorically forbade her to get pregnant. They claimed that her body would not be able to bear such a load. – I am forbidden to have children, and I dream of a child – with bitterness. But the desire was stronger. 3 years later she announced that she was expecting a child.

She coped with her pregnancy extremely well. She continued to suffer from the health problems she had been struggling with since the accident, and she also began to feel pain in her legs. However, she had the strength to tour the USSR, which her relatives advised her against. She welcomed her long-awaited child, Zbyszek, in November 1975. She was 39 years old then. To devote herself fully to caring for him, she suspended her career for a year. – Motherhood filled my time completely. A tiny child is very absorbing – she said in an interview for “Gospodynia”. However, the idyll did not last long. Excruciating pain in her limbs made her unable to walk. Finally, she received a shocking diagnosis – bone sarcoma. She believed that she would beat cancer, she finally had someone to live for. However, fate wanted it otherwise.
