The purpose of this production is to “reflect the struggle before the struggle that children with cancer face in Ecuador, where 40% of them discontinue their treatment due to lack of resources.” The short film aims to show how the families of sick children have to travel between two and six hours a day to get to the hospitals where they will receive cancer treatments. The message is: “Shortening the journey lengthens your life”, hence the name of the production.
“Additionally, one of the child’s parents will usually have to give up work to accompany him, limiting the family’s income to just one, while his cost of living will increase by 200%, making the treatment emotional and becomes economically unsustainable. of scarce resources, living on less than basic salary.”
Kharyme Simon Quintero, creative editor of ParadaisDDB and screenwriter of the film, took as an example the story of Doménica, a little girl who travels 300 km a day for treatment. “His story was the right trigger to show this trip that hundreds of children live not only in Ecuador, but throughout Latin America.”
