Residents of Chorzów could learn about the chef’s skills at the local restaurant Hanys Buda, which he ran for some time.
They attacked a “MasterChef” participant and beat him unconscious
The local website tubachorzowa.pl recently published a disturbing article about the attack on Damian Sobek. On the last day of August, the cook went to one of the nearby markets. “On the way, I called my aunt to get something for dinner, and I’ll just grab some bread,” the “MasterChef” participant told the portal’s reporter.
When the cook left the store, he was approached by a group of people, most likely teenagers. One of the boys asked Sobek for a cigarette. Damian offered it to him, but in a moment another member of the group asked him a similar question. “I joked that I had to take care of everyone. I reached for the package, and after a while I got a kick in the chest,” says the cook.

The boys punched and kicked Sobek while he lay helplessly on the ground. The torturers brutally beat the cook until he lost consciousness. They took his money and watch – the total loss amounted to almost six thousand zlotys. “When I woke up, I heard sirens and I was crawling to the store for help. Then someone else ran and jumped on me,” Sobek added.
Junior aspirant Marta Herman from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Chorzów said that the officers managed to arrest one of the perpetrators of the attack. The boy was only 13 years old. “Numerous contusions of the head and torso, fracture of the vertebrae of the lumbar spine, fracture of the right transverse process, numerous unspecified injuries” – this is the entry included in Damian Sobek’s discharge letter from the hospital.
In his latest post on Facebook, Damian Sobek thanked his fans for their support. “Dear friends, my hands hurt from writing,” says the cook. The “MasterChef” participant shared his current health condition with his followers. “A kind word is needed for the pain I am going through. I am on sick leave in the Netherlands, where I live and work. I am under the care of good doctors,” says Sobek. “I will still cook, I just need to recover,” she adds.
