Such results have not been seen for a long time. Crowds in cinemas to watch a Polish comedy

“Teciowie 2” recorded an impressive result of ticket sales on the premiere weekend. Poles eagerly went to the cinema to see the funny, but not thoughtless continuation of the hit comedy from 2021.

Box office results in 2023 are not satisfactory. From time to time we hear about the financial failures of subsequent franchises. High-profile productions based on audience nostalgia, such as “The Flash” with Michael Keaton as Batman or “Indiana Jones and the Artifact of Destiny” with Harrison Ford, failed to make a fortune at the box office.

“In-laws 2” conquers cinemas. Poles ran to the screenings of Polish comedy

New films with themes that are completely separate from the extensive universes fare much better in the statistics. Poles were very eager to see “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”. After the films’ premiere, cinemas declared that they had recorded record attendance.

When it comes to Polish productions, the box office results are not great. Until recently, only the film “Heaven in Hell” attracted over 100,000 viewers on its opening weekend. As reported by the Wirtualna Polska portal, such poor ratings for domestic productions have not been recorded for 20 years.

“The In-Laws 2” beat out “Heaven in Hell” on its opening weekend

From September 15, you can watch the latest comedy by Kalina Aladrukińska in cinemas, which may break the bad streak. “Teciowie 2” is very popular with viewers. According to statistics, the production attracted over 130,000 viewers during the opening weekend and at pre-premiere screenings. Thus, “Tościowie 2” overtook “Heaven in Hell” by Tomasz Mandes.

“Tościowie 2” is a continuation of the 2021 production, based on the theater play “Shame” by Marek Modzelewski. After two years, the creator returned with a new script to present fans with the first part of an in-depth story about the relationships between familiar characters. “The story is largely based on dialogues, the abundance of which, however, is not overwhelming, because they are delivered masterfully by the actors,” writes Marta Korycka in her review of the film.

In “In-Laws 2” Maja Ostaszewska reappeared as the wealthy Małgorzata, Iza Kuna as Wanda and Adam Woronowicz as her husband – Tadeusz. Marcin Dorociński was missing from the cast and was replaced by Eryk Kulm as Małgorzata’s new partner.
