The Ordiziarra writer Patxi Zubizarreta (1964) has been awarded the National Prize for Children and Youth Literature 2023, for his work Zerria. The jury highlighted his work “for the exceptional narrative quality and the challenging power of the story with hypnotic descriptions that reflect on the human condition”, as reported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in a statement.

Likewise, he has highlighted “the mastery of a story capable of stirring and moving our conscience, our memory and our present.”

The jury praised the “exquisite delicacy and elegant writing” of the author, who “manages to find beauty in the wound and turns literature for young audiences into a precious stone.”

He prizeequipped with 30 000 eurosis granted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports to distinguish a work by a Spanish author, written in any of the official languages ​​of the State and published in Spain in its first edition during the past year 2022.

The award-winning book was published by the publisher Erein in 2022, after it will win the 40th edition of the Lizardi Award.
