In an interview for the Hungarian magazine “Punkt”, artist and director Petra Collins admitted that Sam Levinson used her work without first asking for consent. It’s about the visual creation of “Euphoria”, which was particularly appreciated by the viewers of the series. Its originator was supposedly Petra Collins.

Petra Collins is a director and artist from Toronto, responsible for, among others, music videos for songs by Olivia Rodrigo, Cardi B and . In a January interview for “Punkt” magazine, she talked about how Sam Levinson offered her cooperation on , when the series was only in the initial stages of production. showed his appreciation for the photographer’s photos, which served as inspiration for creating the outline of the series.

“I’ve never talked about it publicly because it’s crazy, but basically the reason I moved to Los Angeles was because Sam Levinson, who directed the show. He contacted my agency and said, ‘I wrote a show based on your photos. You’re going to direct it.’ “So I moved to Los Angeles and worked for HBO for about five months. I said, ‘I’m going to direct this show.’

She was supposed to direct “Euphoria”. She was refused at the last minute

Petra Collins was involved in the entire preparatory process – she created the visual creation and conducted castings with potential actors. HBO then refused to allow her to continue working on “Euphoria.” “We won’t hire you because you’re too young…” – Petra Collins was supposed to hear from the producers of the series. The director was still convinced that because of this decision, the creators would not use her idea.

“Of course they won’t take my version – I was so naive – they will just make a different one… A year later I left the apartment and saw this billboard, which was exactly who I was, a copy of my work. I started crying, I was in great shock… .It was very powerful for me because it’s an aesthetic that I’ve been building my whole life and now I have to change it because it’s becoming mainstream and it’s been taken away from me. The worst thing was that people unconsciously said that this show looked like my photos,” added Petra Collins.
