She has been one of the most popular artists on the Polish stage for almost 50 years. He has many timeless hits to his credit, including: “Being a woman” or “We will discover unknown love”. In interviews, she repeatedly emphasized that although she owes her success primarily to herself, many people supported her on her way to the top. One of them was undoubtedly her ex-husband, Janusz Budzyński.
He was her husband and mentor. Thanks to him, she decided to pursue a solo career
It was 1972. At that time, she was on tour in the Soviet Union with the band Partita. It was then that Janusz Budzyński, 15 years her senior, appeared in her life. She delighted him with her unique voice, and he delighted her with her approach to life. They fell in love with each other almost at first sight. Even though the man had already had two failed marriages, it did not prevent their relationship from developing. Less than a year later, the couple decided to get married.
Initially, their relationship was harmonious and happy. Her husband was her mentor not only in his private life, but also in his professional life. He supported her at every stage of her career, accompanied her during recordings in the studio and during concerts. He also encouraged Majewska to leave and pursue solo development. Finally, she let him talk her into it and, as it later turned out, it was a bull’s-eye. – I had a guardian, he was my husband. I would never take the documents to the qualifying committee for the festival in Opole myself. I didn’t believe in myself, but I had people around me who believed in me – in one of the interviews.
Majewska’s only husband left her for another woman. When he fell ill, she stayed with him until his death
Unexpectedly, after 12 years, the idyll came to an end, as it turned out that Budzyński had an affair, and what’s worse, he decided to abandon Majewska for his lover. The artist was shocked, she did not expect this relationship to end like this. However, she did not oppose his decision, because she claimed that “love does not choose” and apparently this was their fate. Ultimately, the couple divorced, but did not break off contact completely. – There are many things we have no influence on. I do not rebel against what fate brings. Even when I separated from my husband, it was very painful for me, but I had no regret or anger. This is what was supposed to happen, she said.
Despite the painful memories, over time Majewska forgave her ex-husband’s betrayal. In one of the interviews, she even admitted that, looking at his past, she could have expected that she would not be his last wife. When many years later she learned that Budzyński had been diagnosed with advanced stage cancer, she decided to provide him with proper care. She stayed with him until his death in 1990. However, she never hid the fact that she experienced it very much. – His death was a huge trauma for me – she said with regret. However, he still tries to look at life with optimism and make the best of it. – I am a divorced woman, a widow, I have no children. This is how my life turned out. Fortunately, I have the nature of scoring what I have achieved. For me the glass is always half full, not half empty. I have my sorrows, I am at an age where many people close to me are passing away – she emphasized in “Viva”.
