Australian actor of British nationality Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, have announced their divorce by mutual consent, according to a statement shared exclusively by People magazine.

In the press release, the couple, who have been married for 27 years, explain that this is a decision in which their family will always be their priority. They are both parents of two adopted children: Oscar (23) and Ava (18).

Jackman (54) and Deborra Lee Furness (67) married in 1996. When he met her, a year before their wedding, she was already a famous actress in Australia, and he had barely finished drama school.

“We have been fortunate to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. “Our journey is now changing and we have decided to separate to continue our personal growth.”

“Our family has been and will always be our top priority. We take on this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family goes through this transition in all of our lives.” The statement was signed simply as “Deb and Hugh Jackman”.
